Andrew Garfield is setting aside modern superheroics for a medieval revolution. Paul Greengrass has released a new trailer for 'The Uprising,' a historical drama inspired by England's 1381 Peasants' Revolt. Oscar nominee Garfield plays Wat Tyler, an ordinary peasant who leads an extraordinary rebellion against King Richard II as crushing taxes and political oppression push the working class to the breaking point.
The trailer opens in the wake of the Black Death: Garfield's grieving farmer, mourning the family he lost to plague, finds himself at the center of a growing revolution. The trailer builds toward increasing violence, from scenes of exploited farmers "forced to work beyond what their souls can bear."
Greengrass ('United 93,' 'Captain Phillips,' the 'Jason Bourne' trilogy) brings his familiar handheld-camera aesthetic to medieval battle scenes. The cast also includes Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal, and Ralph Fiennes. A Focus Features release, the film opens November 6, 2026.
