Tom Cruise And Anne Hathaway Revving Up For Days Of Thunder 2 — Coming To Cinemas Summer 2028
Cole Trickle is back on the asphalt: Cruise returns to NASCAR for a Days Of Thunder sequel, with Anne Hathaway joining as a team engineer and Jonathan Levine directing for IMAX.
ExclusiveForget the wind and rain outside: there is a breaking weather alert that will quicken the heart of any movie buff. Days Of Thunder 2. Summer 2028. Tom Cruise is revving up to return as hotshot NASCAR driver Cole Trickle in a sequel to Tony Scott's 1990 rubber-burning racing classic — and he is bringing Anne Hathaway along for the ride.
The announcement video says it all: Hathaway in a cowgirl hat, Cruise beaming a megawatt grin, Daytona's legendary track beneath their feet and a souped-up stock car carrying that iconic Days Of Thunder logo. You really can't stop the thunder.
Hathaway has the small matter of impending childbirth to prepare for before she puts the pedal to the metal — Deadline reports the Oscar winner will play a team-leading engineer — but there is already an undeniable buzz that this could be another Top Gun: Maverick situation, even if nobody outside the production knows how the plot will shake out.
Story specifics are under wraps, but some things are locked. Long Shot and Warm Bodies director Jonathan Levine — whose David Corenswet sports drama Mr. Irrelevant has been scoring raves with test audiences ahead of its Christmas Day release — is helming, and the film is being shot for IMAX. Without Remorse writer Will Staples is tackling the script, with Cruise producing alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper.
With Cruise and Hathaway front and centre, hitting the track with Trickle one more time already feels like an event. Vroom vroom.
