'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' has already spun a web through box office history on its very first day.
Tom Holland's new Spider-Man film earned $72 million in previews, including Wednesday's early-access screenings — the highest preview haul in cinema history. The previous record belonged to 'Avengers: Endgame,' which went on to become the biggest opening weekend of all time; that film made $60 million in its Thursday previews.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film reunites Holland with Zendaya and Jacob Batalon. The fourth installment following 2021's 'No Way Home,' which grossed $1.9 billion worldwide, finds Peter Parker starting over from scratch in a world where no one remembers him.
For Sony and Marvel, this number has also lifted expectations for the rest of the summer season; analysts have already begun raising their opening-weekend forecasts.
