The White Lotus actress joins Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler in Joseph Kosinski’s return to the neon-lit world of Crockett and Tubbs.

Haley Lu Richardson Joins Miami Vice ’85

Haley Lu Richardson has joined Miami Vice ’85, adding another familiar face to Universal’s new take on the undercover crime series. Her character has not been disclosed. Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler lead the cast as Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs and James “Sonny” Crockett.

Back to the Original Miami

The film takes its starting point from “Brother’s Keeper,” the pilot of the NBC television show. Its setting is mid-1980s Miami, where glamour and corruption run side by side. Further story details remain under wraps, so Richardson’s place in the detectives’ world is still an open question.

Joseph Kosinski, the filmmaker behind Top Gun: Maverick and F1, directs from a screenplay by Dan Gilroy, whose credits include Nightcrawler. The production is filming for IMAX. The supporting ensemble includes Alden Ehrenreich, Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone, John Leguizamo, Danny Ramirez and Walton Goggins.

A Growing Cast, a 2028 Target

The casting report describes the film as still in production, with a theatrical release scheduled for May 19, 2028. Kosinski and Dylan Clark produce. Richardson’s recent screen work includes the Cold War series Ponies and Gore Verbinski’s Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die.

For now, the announcement expands an already substantial cast rather than revealing a new plot twist. The most intriguing question is how Kosinski’s large-scale filmmaking will translate the original show’s distinctive blend of police work, style and moral compromise.
