Jared Leto Denies Sexual Assault Allegations in BBC Documentary

Four women have accused Jared Leto of sexually abusing them while they were still teenagers; the actor and musician denies the allegations, saying he has "never sexually assaulted anyone."

"I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my life. These allegations are absolutely and completely false," said the 54-year-old Leto in a statement to the Associated Press.

The BBC documentary 'Jared Leto: Hollywood's Dark Secret,' released Wednesday, July 29, details alleged incidents that occurred between 2002 and 2016. The four women who spoke in the documentary say they were teenagers at the time of the alleged incidents, while Leto was an adult. One says she was sexually assaulted at 17; another says a relationship she had at 17 legally amounted to statutory rape; a third says she faced a threat of sexual assault at 19; and a fourth says Leto made sexually explicit phone calls to her and propositioned her when she was 16. The documentary does not fully identify the women.

The BBC says it has corroborated the women's accounts; the AP notes it could not independently verify the allegations. A total of 10 women appear in the documentary, nine of whom say they are sharing their stories publicly for the first time.

Leto has faced similar accusations for years but denies all of them; he has never been charged or sued in connection with any of the allegations. Two people who worked with Leto's band, Thirty Seconds to Mars, also share their claims about the atmosphere within the group in the documentary.
