"The Daily Show" host Jon Stewart jokingly described the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina as an "inverted Super Bowl": "The players spoke Spanish, but the halftime show was in English."
Appearing on Monday night's new episode of 'The Daily Show,' Jon Stewart shared his observations about Sunday's FIFA World Cup final, in which Spain beat Argentina 1-0.
"Of course, the World Cup wrapped up yesterday — Spain beat Argentina 1-0 on the field, finito," Stewart began. "The Spain-Argentina final was kind of an inverted Super Bowl — the players spoke Spanish, but the halftime show was in English." Stewart's joke targeted the extravagant "Topps Final Halftime Show," which featured Madonna, BTS, Justin Bieber, and Shakira performing at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
Stewart also poked fun at Donald Trump's presence in the stands at the match: "Trump was seen handing the trophy to Messi — acting like he'd organized the whole tournament himself." The host also criticized the absurd moments created by the 2026 tournament being co-hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. The episode became Comedy Central's most-watched 'The Daily Show' episode of the 2026 summer season.
