"Heat 2" Starts Filming in November: Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio Cast
It's been learned that "Heat 2," the sequel to Michael Mann's legendary 1995 film "Heat," begins filming in November. Bale takes on Al Pacino's Hanna role, while DiCaprio steps into Val Kilmer's Shiherlis.
According to four sources close to the production reached by TheWrap, following a year of tough negotiations, Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio will star in Michael Mann's 'Heat 2' sequel. Two of the sources say the deals have already closed, while the other two say the deals are in final negotiations but expected to close.
Bale will play Vincent Hanna, the relentless LAPD homicide detective played by Al Pacino in the original film, while DiCaprio will play Chris Shiherlis, the role originated by Val Kilmer. Mann will write and direct the sequel, based on the 2022 novel he co-wrote with Meg Gardiner. 'Heat 2' has a prequel/sequel structure, taking place both before and after the events of Mann's groundbreaking 1995 film 'Heat.'
An Amazon MGM Studios spokesperson said no deals have been finalized yet. TheWrap also learned that Adam Driver is being sought for the villain role of Wardell, with negotiations reportedly advancing. Stephen Graham is said to be in talks for the role of Neil McCauley, played by Robert De Niro in the original film. Multiple actors are reportedly competing for the role of Sharlene, played by Ashley Judd in the original.
Filming is planned to begin in November, though a release date has not yet been announced; even so, there's already talk that this could become the largest-scale crime epic of Mann's entire career.
