Tom Morello Announces New Album: "Date Night" Draws Inspiration From WWII Nazi Hunters

Tom Morello is giving the people what they want: his new solo album. The Rage Against the Machine guitarist announced the album, titled 'Everyone Gets Everything They Want,' on July 28. Described in press materials as the guitarist's "first solo rock album," the record continues his signature blend of "high-octane rock and uncompromising activism."

The album's lead single, "Date Night," is inspired by the true story of three young Dutch women who "served as spies, saboteurs, and assassins" against the Nazis during World War II. Sisters Truus and Freddie Oversteegen, along with their friend Hannie Schaft, would seduce Nazi officers and lure them into the woods, where they were killed. Schaft was later captured, tortured, and killed, but never gave up her comrades.

"I make anti-racist songs for anti-racists. I make anti-fascist songs for anti-fascists. And I make anti-Nazi songs for anti-Nazis," Morello says. "'Date Night' is really a 'whose side are you on?' song. If any of that bothers you, that's on you. Oh, and the killer riff on this track was written by Roman Morello."

The 12-track album arrives Sept. 25 on Mom + Pop Music. The record includes "ADJOURN IT," recorded with his son Roman and System of a Down vocalist Serj Tankian; "Everything Burns," recorded with Beartooth's Caleb Shomo; and the 2024 single "Soldier in the Army of Love." Another track on the album features Irish rap rebels Kneecap.

Morello is also staging a "Power to the People" concert on Oct. 3 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Maryland. The one-day festival will feature Tankian, Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, Taylor Momsen, Killer Mike, and Joan Baez, among others.
