My Chemical Romance Is Back on Top With a 15-Year-Old Album
"Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys" has hit Number One on the UK's Official Rock & Metal Albums chart for the second time, with the band holding down the top two spots.
My Chemical Romance hasn't released a new album in over 15 years. Yet the band scored a new Number One in the UK just two weeks ago — and now the same album is back on top.
Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys climbed from Number 4 to Number 1 on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart this week. The biggest factor behind the album's return is the band's Long Live the Black Parade tour: after shows in Liverpool, Glasgow, and London, the tour moved on to other European stops, reigniting interest in the band's catalog.
The album, which hadn't appeared on the chart since June 2022, suddenly shot to the top and has now claimed its second week in the lead. That means it has shed the "one week at Number One" status it shared with Life on the Murder Scene, May Death Never Stop You: The Greatest Hits 2001–2013, and The Black Parade Is Dead!
My Chemical Romance now has six total Number Ones on this chart, only three of which have managed to stay on top for more than one week. Danger Days is still one week behind the three-week reign of Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. The record, though, unquestionably belongs to The Black Parade: that album ruled the chart for a full 11 weeks — more than all the band's other chart-topping albums combined.
This week also finds the band blocking itself out of a spot: Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge climbed from Number 6 to Number 2, handing My Chemical Romance the top two positions on the chart. The band has one more album in the Top 10: The Black Parade slipped from Number 8 to Number 10.
