The Rolling Stones shared details of their new album, 'Foreign Tongues,' in a cover interview with Billboard, revealing that the album's most notable guest is Amy Winehouse. The band said they built one of the album's tracks around an unfinished vocal recording by the late singer, emphasizing that it is not an AI-generated simulation but a genuine performance that had long sat in the archives.
Mick Jagger and Keith Richards made clear they hold a firm position on the debates AI has sparked in music. According to Jagger, Winehouse's inclusion is absolutely not an AI trick: "Amy's voice is there, it's real. We just built a song around it." Richards said they still look for an analog soul in the studio, but don't reject the digital world outright.
The album was previewed at a private event on May 5 at The Weylin in Brooklyn. Photos from that night show Jagger, Richards, and Ronnie Wood playing the album for press and guests for the first time. 'Foreign Tongues' arrives as a new studio effort just two years after the band's 2023 album, 'Hackney Diamonds.'
Details of the agreement between Winehouse's estate and the Stones camp have not been disclosed, but the band said the song was released with the approval of Winehouse's family.
