The Music World Remembers L7 Bassist Jennifer Finch

Tom Morello, Garbage, Violet Grohl, Courtney Love, and many other artists are remembering L7 bassist and vocalist Jennifer Finch, who died Saturday (July 18) following an aggressive brain cancer. Finch was 59.

A representative for the family announced her death over the weekend. The news came just days after L7 revealed that Finch had been diagnosed with brain cancer and would be unable to join the band's upcoming farewell tour.

Finch was a founding member of L7, formed in Los Angeles in 1985. The band emerged as one of the toughest, most uncompromising voices of the '90s alternative-rock and grunge wave, influencing generations of musicians with the album 'Bricks Are Heavy' and songs like "Pretend We're Dead."

Finch was also among the founders of the Rock for Choice movement, an initiative that turned music into a direct tool for political organizing and brought together hundreds of artists throughout the '90s.

Tributes shared in the wake of her death emphasized that Finch was not just a bassist, but a figure who forcibly opened doors for women musicians.
