Billie Joe Armstrong, Tim Armstrong, and Travis Barker Form Ramones Supergroup: Cretin Family
A new supergroup called Cretin Family will make its live debut at the tribute concert marking the 50th anniversary of Ramones' debut album at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
The 50th anniversary of Ramones' debut studio album will be celebrated with an official tribute night on Aug. 30 at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles. The event's biggest surprise is a brand-new punk supergroup formed by the artists set to perform: Cretin Family.
The group consists of Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, Tim Armstrong of Rancid, Travis Barker of Blink-182, and C.J. Ramone, Ramones' final bassist. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the cancer research led by Dr. David Agus at the Ellison Institute Research Foundation.
"The spirit of Ramones lives on in every backyard punk show, every punk club, and every festival," Billie Joe Armstrong said in a statement. "Generation after generation, 'cretins' and misfits become Ramones fanatics. Kids get influenced by Ramones and don't even know it yet. ¡Viva Ramones!"
With every member of the original lineup having passed away over the last two decades, Ramones' legacy continues to be passed down through generations since the birth of punk music. Cretin Family's live debut is being positioned as a tribute to that legacy.
