'Michael' Becomes the Highest-Grossing Biopic of All Time

'Michael,' the film chronicling Michael Jackson's life, has claimed the title of highest-grossing biopic of all time just two months after hitting theaters. As confirmed by Lionsgate to Rolling Stone, the film has reached $977 million, surpassing the $965 million record set three years ago by Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer.'

Directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jaafar Jackson as his superstar uncle, the film broke global records with a $217 million opening weekend after its April premiere. Continuing to earn over $1 million a day, the film has reached $370 million domestically, placing it third on Lionsgate's all-time list, behind only 'The Hunger Games' ($408 million) and its sequel, 'Catching Fire,' which hold the top two spots.

'Michael' spans from the pop star's early years with his brothers in The Jackson 5 through his 1988 'Bad' tour. While the film has drawn criticism for not addressing the child sexual abuse allegations Jackson faced, that hasn't stopped audiences from flocking to theaters.

The film's massive box-office run has also boosted interest in Jackson's music. As the singer's catalog streaming numbers climbed, the album 'Thriller' returned to Number 7 on the Billboard 200. His solo work reached a career-high 137.5 million on-demand streams in the week of April 24-30, a 146% jump over the previous best week.
